 Tornado in Tuscaloosa, Alabama 04/27/11

Friends, my verse and message this time is a little different. The only thing on my heart to share this week involves the devastating tornadoes that as of minutes ago had been recorded to have taken the lives of at least 248 people in the south which includes 162 lives in Alabama.

Millions were without power, although I had access to a generator and watched the storm coverage live via internet. Living in an area where we experience several tornado warnings each spring, it’s easy to take for granted all that we have when we witness the power and destruction that has taken place.

When businesses and homes have been flattened, debris has been carried from Tuscaloosa to Anniston and Trussville, when the lives of many are still unaccounted for….it’s all too familiar in this age of peril. HOWEVER… there is HOPE and that HOPE begins with a SAVIOR, Who’s Resurrection we celebrated this past weekend. Jesus Christ instructs us to love one another and to help others in need.

If you are reading this, you are alive, and you have been spared from these horrific events! Church of the Highlands is gathering people and resources to assist those affected by this disaster. If you have it on your heart to reach out and help in the relief effort for our community and state, please check out the following link:

2 Corinthians 9:12

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

Our scouts from Florence (including my son, Hunter) helped unload the amazingly generous donation from Church of the Highlands today in Hackleburg. I spoke with a very kind man from your congregation and tried to tell him that I met you in Gulf Shores several years ago and blanked on your name! 😦 Today was an unbelievable experience in so many ways…it truly renews your faith in God (and mankind!) to work in such a devestating situation and to see the goodwill and courage of these dear people. I would highly recommend that anyone who can go help should try to go, although you must have permission to get into the town at this point. Thank you for your comments this week and for the good work that you and your friends at Church of the Highlands continue to do!

It’s so great to hear from you Linda! WOW, it is amazing how so many people have gone through so much with this tragic event, yet, people are stepping up to the plate using the hands and feet of Jesus. It’s an opportunity for the church to love on others….so many church communities are involved. I am so happy you have had the chance to take part in this unbelievable relief effort. Miss you! It means so much to connect with you…thank you for your kind encouragement and feedback. Maybe I will see you again sometime! Love and Hugs!
