Psalm 51:10&12 — Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation.
Luke 22:20 — “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.”
Pastor Chris shot a hole in one last night with his mid-week message on “The Four Cups of the Passover.” I couldn’t resist sharing a recap with my readers as this is a beautiful time when Christians celebrate the journey Christ took to the Cross. The astonishing death and resurrection of Jesus Christ gives us everlasting freedom from our sins and supernatural joy to embrace His Presence today and throughout eternity!
Jesus’ last meal before the crucifixion was the Passover Meal that most Christians today observe as The Lord’s Supper. Jesus dined with His disciples in The Upper Room on what we know as Maundy Thursday, the day before we observe Good Friday. Pastor Chris described the four cups of the Passover and how it relates to our journey with Christ.
The first cup of the Passover is THE CUP OF SANCTIFICATION. God brought the children of Israel out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. To sanctify means to bring out. It’s our Salvation. We have been set apart, and made “holy” but only by the Blood of Jesus. The wrath of God was satisfied once and for all through the sacrifice of Jesus – The True Passover Lamb.
The second cup of the Passover is THE CUP OF DELIVERANCE. In the Old Testament, God freed the Israelites from slavery and bondage. In the New Covenant we have been set FREE through Christ, our Savior. We have been saved, so when God sees us, He sees Jesus. However, we are still working out our salvation through the sanctification process of His cleansing in and through us. He gives us the will/desire to do it, and He will provide the power/ability to do it, but we have to allow Him to transform us into His likeness—it’s a process of growth. He wants to cleanse the world out of us–bringing us from Glory to Glory.
The third cup of the Passover is THE CUP OF REDEMPTION. To redeem something is to take it back to its original specification. He wants to place us back on His RIGHT PATH in order to fulfill our purpose, our calling, and our true destiny. We were chosen by Him for a beautiful purpose.
Finally, the fourth cup of the Passover is THE CUP OF PRAISE. This cup becomes the natural response of the first three cups. This cup represents when we finally “GET IT!” It’s when Christianity becomes the most fulfilling! It’s the process from the “GOT TO” to the “GET TO!” Once we reach this level of Christian maturity — all Hell can break loose, but we won’t!
**I used the “hole-in-one” analogy above, because Pastor Chris loves to golf and shot a hole in one on Monday, April 18 on a 150 yard par 3.**
Only ONE can make us WHOLE, that’s a true WHOLE IN ONE!
Enjoy a beautiful Easter Weekend!
