“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
I can do all this through Christ Who gives me strength.
My favorite movies are based on true stories. Motion pictures are a great escape, but they can also be a conduit of encouragement and inspiration. I found exactly that this past weekend when we went to check out Soul Surfer. The movie depicts the beautiful testimony of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton who survived and triumphed after a vicious attack by a 14 foot tiger shark off the coast of Kauai, Hawaii on Halloween morning 2003.
Joni Eareckson Tada and Christopher Reeve (Superman) also come to mind when I reflect on those who have given new meaning to becoming “more than conquerors.” These individuals represent an incredible example of living out a positive expression from…..

These courageous heroes reacted to their respective tragedies with supernatural strength and character. Many who might have fallen prey to the same situation would respond with self-pity and hopelessness. When we allow our feelings to dictate our actions, it’s a FAIL. When we choose to see His perspective, it’s a WIN-WIN.
Next time your circumstances seem impossible in the natural realm, remember you have an Advocate Who wants to bring His “possible” to your reality. It’s a decision. It’s not just mind over matter….it’s His Mind in You that can produce a beautiful supernatural result.
“Soul Surfer” was a term that came out in the 70’s used to describe a surfer who surfs for fun. Although a “soul surfer” may enter surfing competitions, the motivation of such an extreme sports enthusiast goes beyond winning. Check out the following links when you get a chance, and don’t miss the flick Soul Surfer. When your attitude reflects Christ, you become a SOUL SURFER seeking SOULS to join with JESUS!
May we recognize that you are the source of supernatural strength when we feel like giving up. Give us the will to choose to see GOOD in ALL things no matter what we face. Thank you for using others, to demonstrate that a beautiful future is possible as long as we place our faith in You.
In Your Holy Name,
