If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
I wanted to share the following message /email I received from a co-worker this week. I think it is fitting as Church of the Highlands is getting ready to kick-off their upcoming 2010 Fall Small Group Semester. It’s crucial that we connect with others. Our Creator designed each of us to be in relationships.
Fable of the Porcupine
edited by Susie Mc
It was the coldest winter ever, and many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together.
This way they covered themselves and stayed warm, however, the quills of each one wounded their closest companions even though they gave off heat to each other.
After awhile they decided to distance themselves one from the other, and they began to die…. alone and frozen.
So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or withdraw and disappear to a lonely existence ultimately leading to death.
Wisely, they decided to reconnect. They learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationships with their companions, but most significantly, they recognized the benefits of the warmth and support that came from sticking together.
Moral of the story:
The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people. A beautiful relationship is grown when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire and appreciate those unique qualities. We need each other to stay warm.
Highlands Small Groups
“In times of need and times of fun, Highlands small groups are your source of friendship and support. They are your key to developing connections with those who share your interests or people who are dealing with similar life issues.”
“Small groups are an opportunity to reach out to others, while growing in your walk with the Lord. Groups meet once a week in homes, businesses, restaurants, or at the church. The groups change and begin again three times a year, so you have the opportunity to try out different ones. You’ll never fully experience all that Church of the Highlands has to offer until you connect in a small group!”

According to Rick Warren in Purpose Driven Church “WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER”
*WE FELLOWSHIP BETTER TOGETHER!
*WE GROW BETTER TOGETHER!
*WE SERVE BETTER TOGETHER!
*WE WORSHIP BETTER TOGETHER!
*WE REACH OUT BETTER TOGETHER!
