Verse and Message (Week of Feb 20-27, 2010) February 25, 2010

As most of you know, I am on the intercessory prayer team at Church of the Highlands. Prayer is the most powerful tool we can use as Christians. I wanted to share my thoughts from what I experienced this past weekend at the first prayer walk of Prayer Force United.
This past Saturday, February 20 the first Prayer Force United Prayer Walk of 2010 took place beginning at Kelly Ingram Park. Prayer Force United was designed to unite people in prayer to cover the City of Birmingham under the direction and leadership of the Birmingham Police Chief, A. C. Roper and Prayer Force United Leader, Mark Hand.
When I think of 2010, I think of the number “10” which means “Completeness of order, marking the entire round of anything–it implies that nothing is wanting; that the number and order are perfect; that the whole cycle is complete.” (
I believe that from the beginnings of Prayer Force United to the present date, we have worked through the experimental stages of this effort. The logistics, blue prints, and development of Prayer Force United have allowed us to grow a team of warriors who are prepared to break the walls of the principalities and rulers of darkness taunting our city.
Saturday’s prayer platform began supernaturally as one of the most beautiful days of the year. It was what I like to refer to as a “slice of heaven kind of day.” In other words, we couldn’t pray for a better day to embark on the first prayer walk of the year.
The day began with a smaller group of people offering praise and worship to cultivate and usher in the presence of the Living God. When a group of people seek His face in unity, He can’t help but show up. I have had the privilege to participate in numerous prayer gatherings in the course of the past five years, but I don’t recall a duplication of what I experienced prior to the prayer walk on Saturday.
There was a holy heaviness that was indescribable. I felt as if I was floating; I was light-headed to a point of peace that truly does transcend all understanding. Typically, when I feel light-headed, I feel weak…but this time, there was a strength…an energy that made me desire to climb to the highest point possible to touch Him. The cool thing however, I didn’t have to go there….He came to me. He had His hand on this gathering. My Spirit felt as if He was saying, “I am here….I have prepared you for an awakening of faith in this city.”
As we concluded the worship time in a building nearby, we headed outside to Kelly Ingram Park where the official festivities of the walk began. The prayer walk was strategically organized in a way that we had several stops to initiate warfare and claim what is rightfully ours in His Precious Name. We paused and were led by different leaders in fervent prayer in front of the the following represented buildings: Police Sub Station, the Federal Courthouse, the Fire Department, City Hall, Birmingham School Board, Jefferson County Courthouse and Commission, Jefferson County Jail, Birmingham Municipal Court, and the Civil Rights Institute.
There was no denying the power of His Spirit that day. The following verse resonated with me: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” (Luke 10:18) When a verse like that is placed in your spirit, there is a confidence that embraces you. I knew before we began the walk that the enemy had already been defeated. However, I realized that when Satan fell……it was before the human race existed. When the dynamic of human life took place, that changed because of free will in the garden. Jesus came to free us of the damage we can do with our free will.
The next word from the Lord revealed to me was the story of the woman who touched the fringe of the cloak of Jesus and was instantly healed. As warriors standing in the gap for our city, we are simply seeking healing of the consequences of sin that have taken place in our area due to free will. If we but grab hold to the hem of His cloak, His power will radiate through us and seize power over that “free will” of the people who have been deceived by the enemy of this world. Satan has dominion in our land due to the fall of man, BUT because of Jesus, we reign in holiness for eternity. However, our job through the course of these monthly prayer walks is to claim territory over what the enemy has stolen.
They say that there is power in numbers. We had record numbers on Saturday as hundreds showed up in humility to intercede on behalf of the evil that has taken place in our city. The Blood of the Lamb is the ONLY thing that can extinguish those arrows that the enemy has hit. Thus, the reason for this mission.
We have been given the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm us. (Luke 10:19) An increased awareness of the darkness and cloud of injustice on our streets propels us as His children to be ambassadors of His cleansing.
God has gifted Prayer Force United with influence. Our faith reaches in high expectation as we reach to touch the hem of His garment to receive His power-that through us, we are a team of intercessors who desire to be a vessel to change this city and ultimately change the world. We partner with the Almighty to seek to destroy the work of the enemy, breaking strongholds and being “salt and light.”  As we claim our armor with the Belt of Truth, Breastplate of Righteousness, Helmet of Salvation, Shield of Faith, Sword of the Spirit, Shoes of Peace (Ephesians 6:10-18) and are focused on bathing the city in prayer, we are appropriately prepared with each step we take to capture the Force that states the claim of Overwhelming Victory.
To sum up the purpose of Saturday’s walk…..
“God shaped the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil… the prayers of God’s saints are the capital stock of heaven by which God carries on His great work upon earth. God conditions the very life and prosperity of His cause on prayer.” (from Intercessory Prayer–Dutch Sheets)
If you are interested in participating with us, we would love for you to join our forces to take back what the enemy has stolen from our city. The walks take place in specific designations of the city on the third Saturday of each month. It has been proven that the crime rate has decreased dramatically since we began this effort a little more than a year ago. That evidence is not a coincidence.

Prayerfully consider your part in this mission.
Onward Christian Soldiers!
